Vanishing Point

@joymakon1

Can’t get enough of the sunset from the top of the hill along Prospect Park West in Brooklyn, NYC. My favorite location to view sunsets is at the intersection of Ninth Street and Prospect Park West. The sight line is one long hill with the bottom point at Buttermilk Channel along the Brooklyn waterfront. It’s a great vista, with the only break in the view being the elevated highway. Every once in awhile the liner Queen Mary 2 is in dock and can be seen. You need to look closely to have that bother you. If I time it right, I get rewarded with interesting clouds and a vivid sunset—everything else becomes reflections once darkness sets in. This is a cheap thrill to paint in the studio as the scene comes together quickly and is all about the drama of light against dark. I predict that I will paint this again.
