Sunshine and Sangria

@emma-henke

40cm x 30cm oil on canvas

Standing in the shade of the umbrella of a kindly restaurant owner, I painted this in the blazing sun on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

El Charco de San Gines is a seawater lagoon, dotted with traditional fishing boats that potter out to sea when the tide is right and come back with their haul of lobsters and fat tuna.

The church in the background is the Iglesia de San Gines which hosts some beautiful carvings and statues.

The food - and the sangria ;) - at La Minoca, the restaurant under whose umbrellas I took shelter from the sun - is really good :)
