Madrona with Orcas

@df-gray

Jan 29, late AM-early PM, from Madrona Pt, great views of Craig Bay to Cottam Pt. First bird was a spotted sandpiper, 220+ brant at Rath beach visible by scope, groups of mallard, wigeon, scoters flying into the bay/beach, 2 ORCAS N of Brant Pt with a frenzy of 700+ gulls-I think they were all after herring, scattered goldeneye, bufflehead, a few grebe, common loons close in, pacific loons & gulls flying up-down the Strait, occasional sea lion & harbour seal, scattered gulls along the water line feeding w/brant. Views of eagle pairs at established nests-Rath, Mistaken Is N, Madrona Pt. One pileated woodpecker worked on various parts of a fallen tree less than 6m from Dan & I for over an hour. An enjoyable 3 hours at the shore. There were Orcas off a far point
