Late afternoon light at the Palmschleuse

@emma-henke

This place was just magical. It's an old lock, part of a canal from the Middle Ages, built in 1398 and used for the last time in the 1890s. It used to be full of barges transporting salt - white gold - in one direction and myriad goods from the trading ports in the other. I could almost hear the old bargees calling to each other.

Painting with traditional oils, I could feel history with every stroke.
