En cherchant du bleu profund

@vivi

After Carlos Perot. Carlos Perot was a Chilean painter from Vina del Mar, and a friend of my fathers. He was the only latin American artist to be recognised by the Royal Society of Marine Artists. My father made the introduction.
This seascape, which is similar to one that Perot painted in oils and that my mother has in England, is in memory both of my father, who, like me- loved the sea, and of happy sailing days crewing for my friend Elisio in his Star. The sea out near the "Boia de Espera" in front of Furnas restaurant, and where the Dragon Regattas are usually held, is just like this. I am always trying to achieve that wonderful deep blue that you see out there in my paintings. All my friends who know and love the sea know what blue I mean. We call it "Le Bleu Profund."

There are restaurants, parking etc on the land but to see this blue, you have to go out far out, in a boat. SB20´s can be hired from the sailing club (but you would need to persuade the skipper to take you out to this location). There are also dolphin watching tours available from the Marina- they likely go out to this area because its also one of the main places that you can see dolphins.
The photo is taken from more towards the SB20 course, and from an inflatable. When I have seen that blue, I have usually been hiking (i.e. hanging out of a boat, in some cases with pretty much only my feet inside it) and concentrating on the sails- not a situation that is condusive to taking a photo unless one wants to end up in the water :-) Plus, because of the swell, and also the spray from the prow of the boat hitting the water, I have also been pretty wet - so it would have been the end of my camera :-)

50*70 cm, in Sennelier watercolours and oil pastels.
