Canada 250 884 3372 About Melinda Neal My Father was a Naval Officer and my Mother an Art Teacher. As a child, we moved frequently between the UK and Atlantic Canada. The Arts were taught in grade school in England, and it was certainly my favorite subject. This early exposure really influenced me and when I moved to the West Coast after high-school, I explored various branches from pottery to painting. As I grew older my passion centered on painting. A lot of my work is centered on water and the ocean. I am fascinated with the reflections, the ever changing conditions, the way the wind, sun and tides are constantly creating differing atmospheres from serene to ferocious and everything in between. As an avid gardener I am also inspired by the light and shade on the garden and on flowers in my house. I try to capture the feeling of serenity and contentment (hygge) which comes from a good day spent outside. I have exhibited at various venues on the Southern Vancouver Island. These include the annual SPAC, (Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts) show, also at the juried Sooke Fine Art Show. I was the Artist in Residence at the Panorama and past Co-Chair for the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Exhibits (samples of my work are often available for viewing there). I am currently lead the Artsea/Coast Capital project.
